Rally's AI Writing Assistant now reads your artifact attachments. As of April 15, 2026, attach a PDF, TXT file, CSV, or image to any Rally artifact and the AI will pull from it when helping you write or update that item. Full details in the Q2 2026 Release Notes.
What This Changes in Practice
The obvious use case: attach a requirements document or design spec to a user story, then ask Rally's AI to help write acceptance criteria. Instead of working from the artifact description alone, the AI reads what you attached. Smaller text-based files get processed first, images last. Total context is capped at 20 MB across all attachments on the artifact.
Teams that already store specs or reference docs as attachments will feel this immediately. Teams that aren't using Rally's AI features yet won't notice a difference.
One Thing Admins Need to Do First
This feature isn't on by default. Your subscription administrator needs to enable it via the new AI settings tab in Rally's admin area. Look for "Configure AI Capabilities by Subscription." Once enabled, attachments are available as context for all users on that subscription. If you're at a large enterprise and IT hasn't touched the AI tab yet, that's the first call to make.
How Big Is This?
Incremental. This is not a platform shift, it's a real step toward AI-assisted authoring that works with how teams actually document requirements. Broadcom has been building out the AI Writing Assistant's context a piece at a time, and attachment support is a meaningful addition for teams that keep their specs close to the work.
