Rally Idea Manager reaches end of life on March 31, 2026. After that date, no enhancements, maintenance, or technical support.

This retirement is different from the OpsHub transition happening the same day, there's no bundled replacement. Teams that rely on Idea Manager will need to plan their own alternative.

What Idea Manager Was

Idea Manager was a bundled BrightIdea integration that shipped with Rally subscriptions. It gave stakeholders a portal to submit feature ideas, vote on them, and discuss priorities, and product owners could promote winning ideas directly into Rally work items.

In practice, it was always a thin wrapper. BrightIdea was never deeply integrated into Rally, and each subscription only covered a single site license. Enterprises that needed more had to negotiate directly with BrightIdea.

Over time, most teams found other ways to gather customer input. Dedicated product management tools took over the idea pipeline, and as Rally's customer base shifted toward larger enterprises, those organizations already had product marketing departments running their own research. For most teams, Idea Manager had already been quietly replaced by other processes.

What to Do Before March 31

  • Export your data. There's no official export guide yet, so document your ideas, votes, and any promoted work items manually while you still have access.
  • Check for workflow dependencies. If any team processes route through Idea Manager, stakeholder intake, feature prioritization meetings, quarterly planning inputs, you'll want a replacement workflow ready.
  • Evaluate alternatives. ProductBoard is the most established standalone option for structured idea management. But for teams that want to stay inside Rally, a dedicated project with a custom intake form and workflow can replicate the core submit-vote-promote loop without adding another tool. We've built these for clients, it's a straightforward setup.

The Bigger Picture

Idea Manager is one of two Rally features reaching end of life on March 31, OpsHub transitions to ConnectALL the same day. The App SDK and Custom Pages follow in October. If your team hasn't mapped out which Rally capabilities you depend on, now's a good time. Our geological history of the Rally platform covers the full arc.
