As of March 19, Rally's Custom Views now have revision history. Every time someone edits a Custom View, Rally logs what changed, who changed it, and when. Auto-generated revision number included.
If you work in financial services, healthcare, or government, you probably just exhaled.
The Missing Piece
Custom Views are the replacement for Custom Pages, which hit end-of-life on October 31, 2026. The migration pitch has been straightforward: move your apps to Custom Views, the new system is better, you've got until Halloween.
But enterprise compliance teams kept asking the same question: where's the audit trail?
Custom Pages never had one either, to be fair. Nobody was tracking who changed what on those. But "the old thing was also bad" isn't a great sales pitch when you're asking a bank to adopt the new thing. Regulated industries need to show auditors who touched what and when, it's not a nice-to-have, it's a checkbox on someone's annual review.
What Gets Tracked
You can find it under Reports > Custom Views, select any view, open the Action menu, and choose Revision History. Each entry includes:
- An auto-generated revision number
- A description of what changed
- The date and time
- Who made the change
Nothing fancy. Just the basics that every change management process has been asking for.
What This Means for Your Migration Timeline
If your compliance team was the reason you hadn't started migrating to Custom Views, that reason just went away. Between this, the new Widget Developer Role, Endorsed Widgets, and Pin Shared Views, Custom Views are looking a lot more enterprise-ready than they did six months ago.
October is seven months out. That sounds like plenty of time until you start counting how many custom pages you actually have.
Still Figuring Out Custom Views?
We've been building Rally custom apps since before Custom Views existed, back when "custom" meant hacking ExtJS components and hoping nobody looked too closely. If you need help inventorying your Custom Pages, planning the migration, or building new widgets for Custom Views, let's talk.

The audit trail exists now. Your auditors will be thrilled. Your developers will be relieved. Your project manager will still find something to worry about.
